Unit 2 We haven‘t found life on other planets yet .

Teaching Aims and Demands:
1. Language knowledge:
New words: planet, solar, also, none, environment, air, grow, grown, part, galaxy, billion, universe, light, beyond, alone, entrance, cost, prefer, solar system
Key structures: Present perfect tense with just, already and yet. (重点)
2.To understand passages about space travel involving present perfect tense. (难点)
3. Attitudes: We should love science and our country.
Learning strategies: Communicative approach.
Teaching Aids: Multi-Media (Tape recorder, video, OHP, handout)
Teaching Procedures:
Part I: Revision
1. Help students to revise what is learnt in Period one of this module.
Show them some pictures about the new words in last period. Have the Ss. spell them chorally and individually.
2. Revise the p.p. forms of some irregular verbs

Part II : Preparation
Task 1 : Learn the new words.
  Directions: Label the pictures with the words.
(1). Read through the words on the screen. Have the Ss. Repeat them after you.
(2).Read the words separately and have them remember them.
(3).Make some sentences with the words.
(4) Call back the answers from the whole class.
Task 2: Think about things you know about life on other planets.
Directions:
(1). Let the Ss look at the picture and the title of the unit. Read thesentence given. Elicit some more from the Ss, and note them on the board. Accept anything they give.
(2). Pair the Ss to talk about life on other planets.
Part III: Scanning and Skimming
1.Task: Read the passage and choose the best title.
Directions:
Step one: The teacher ask the Ss to read the titles.
Step two: Ss read the passage and choose the best title individually.
Step three: Call back the answers from the whole class, asking for reasons for their choice.
2. Task: Read the passage and put the words and expressions in order in activity 3.
Directions:
Step one: First make sure the Ss understand what they should do. Ss read the passage and do activity 3 on page 21 individually and check with a partner.
Step two: Call back the answers from the whole class, having individuals read out the answers.
3. Task: Check the true sentences in activity 4.
Directions:
Step one: Read through the sentences and make sure the Ss understand what they mean. Ss do activity 4 on page 21 individually and check with a partner.
Step two: Call back the answers from the whole class, having individuals correct the wrong sentences.
Part IV : Dealing with expressions:
1. However, we haven‘t found life on other planets yet. 然而,我们在其他行星上还没有发现生命。
  however 是副词,一般在两句之间,其后用逗号,表示转折。
  We have not won; however, we shall try again.
我们还没有取胜, 不过我们还要再试一下。
2.The earth is a planet and it goes around the Sun. Eight other planets also go around the Sun.
地球是行星,它围绕着太阳转。还有8颗行星也围绕着太阳转。
(1)过去一直认为太阳系有九大行星:水星(Mercury),金星(Venus),地球(Earth),火星(Mars),木星(Jupiter),天王星(Uranus),海王星(Neptune),冥王星(Pluto)。2006年,科学家一致认定太阳系有八大行星:水星,金星,地球,火星,木星,天王星,海王星。即去掉原来的冥王星。
(2) 注意:数词+other+名词的复数,而another+数词+名词的复数。例如:
I have eaten 2 apples, I would like 3 other apples.我已经吃了2个苹果了,我想再吃3个。
I have eaten 2 apples, I would like another 3 apples. 我已经吃了2个苹果了,我想再吃3个。
文章中还有一句:
But scientist have discovered many other galaxies in the universe.但是科学家在宇宙中已经发了很多其他的星系。
3.The stars we see at night are the suns in other solar systems.我们在晚上看见的星星是其他太阳系中的恒星。
(1)we see 是定语,修饰The stars。
(2) sun小写作为普通名词使用,表示“恒星“。如果大写,表示我们太阳系中的太阳。例如:
The Sun is shining.
4. With so many stars in the universe, are we alone, or is there life out there in space?宇宙中有这么多的恒星,我们是孤独的吗?太空中还有其他生命吗?
With so many stars in the universe是介词短语,在句子中作状语,表示伴随情况。例如:
    The boy ran in, with a ball in his hand.
    小男孩手里拿着球,跑了进来。
 Part V: Language use
1. Activity 5 on page 21 in the WB.
Direction: Ss do it by themselves .Let‘s see who can finish it as soon as possible. Then discuss in pairs and finally share their answers with the class.
2.Give the students some time to recall what they‘ve learned in this class.
 Part VI: Homework: Retell the text.
 Part VII: A test: Exercise 11 on page 146 in the WB.
